Kelly's Resume
Conceptual Statement
As I reflect back on my work through my college career, I have to ask myself… How did I get here? Upon starting my UI/UX courses at Purdue Northwest, I quickly realized that I enjoy building screen layouts and thinking through the design process. What I like most about User Experience design is building the process that the user will go through upon interacting with the app, or website, et cetera. I think my favorite part of the design process is coming up with multiple solutions and collaborating with my team members. When it comes to brainstorming, I try to put myself in the user’s mindset to try to help come up with many ideas, then pick the best one based off of my research.
Another reason I lean a bit more towards User Experience design is because I like to incorporate ethical and accessible design in my work. To do this, I try to research about a problem in order to figure out a solution that will benefit the user while still giving them a positive experience. I often think about how as a designer, I may someday be part of a company where we design an experience that is not helpful to the user, but rather harmful in the sense that it is addictive design. The number one rule I think about as a designer is do no harm. I think trying to incorporate ethical designs and really asking ourselves if what we are doing to the user is harmful is something that should be taken into consideration.
To me, it is fun to design these workflows and the path that the user will take. I would consider wireframing and creating flowcharts a skill of my that I am proud of, but look to continue to improve upon, like many of my other skills as a designer.
